Hi All,

I hope you all had a great weekend! It felt a little strange to have a weekend when every day feels a little weekendish now. I hope that you have all taken care of yourselves and found lots of time to connect with your children.

I really enjoyed our weekly wrap-up on Friday. The children that were able to make it really enjoyed themselves and it was a great way to connect. I have decided to hold a similar meeting, Monday March 23rd at 1pm. I hope that your child can join us today. The plan for now will be every Monday and Friday at 1pm. You will find the meeting invitation at the bottom of this page.

The district have released their enrichment boards. These boards are a great way to keep your child learning during this time. In addition I have updated the links and ideas on this page. The videos and ideas connect to current content in the classroom. Here is a summary of topics being addressed:

Science: What is Matter?

Social Studies: The articles of Confederation, Constitution, and Bill of Rights

Math: Multiplying mixed Numbers and Identifying triangles

Hi All,

I am sure that you are all still adjusting to the news that schools have been cancelled for the next two weeks. It is truly a new reality for all of us and I haven't quite wrapped my head around it myself. I wanted to start by letting you know that while we are not in session, I am still here and available for you and your children. Even though it is not exactly business as usual we can still continue to learn and grow together. 

Administration is working diligently to put together resources and enrichment for parents and students, more information in regards to this will be coming to you this week.This website is updated to reflect the most current curriculum. There are videos and links to applications that students are very familiar with. Feel free to visit and keep their brains active over the next several days. 

Report cards will still be available this Friday at 4pm. I am available through email if you have any questions or concerns after viewing your student's report. 

If you need anything please reach out. All questions will be addressed in a timely manner. Please let your children know that I miss them already. I will  be in contact again soon.

Welcome to fall..

The crisp fall air is finally here and I am beginning to sense that it is truly fall. Things are going well in room 105! Hopefully you all received your 1-month check-in. Next month we will all meet for parent teacher conferences, but remember if you have concerns that it is never too early to reach out.

In Reading students have been focusing on learning to write a summary using the organizer "Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then". If you and your family watch a movie ask them if they can summarize it using the same strategy. It is good practice, and a skill they will use a ton next year. Students have also been learning about Character Traits. In addition to naming traits I am working with students to use direct evidence (character actions) from a text to support their opinion. You can do the same thing using characters from a show.

In Writing we started by focusing on our Ecosystems unit, writing poetry to represent a food chain. Now we are turning out attention to narrative writing.

In Math students finished their first unit. All students should have brought home their unit 1 test for you to review. Unit 2 focuses on the traditional algorithm. Students should be able to multiply 3x2 digit numbers using this method. They are really grasping the strategy, however all students need practice on their basic math facts.

In Content we finished our first Science unit on Ecosystems. Benchmark scores should be sent home sometime next week. We are now starting our first Social Studies unit which focuses on the first 13 colonies. Students will be using the inquiry model to research and form an opinion about "where" they would have settled if given the choice.

Lastly, last week we started First Chapter Fridays. Each Friday we will read the first chapter of a book in the classroom. Watch for my Friday update with the title and author in case your child is interested in Reading it at home.

Come share a glass of lemonade in support of Mr. Lacoste and his family and while you are there enjoy reading in the bandstand by some incredible local authors. Rob Buyea is the author of the mr. terupt series and is part of our 5th grade mentor author study. He will be reading at 5:55 on Thursday evening.

Dear Team 105 members and family,

Thanks for visiting our classroom website! I am getting very excited for the beginning of school. I have already been back in the classroom getting ready for your return. I would love to get to know you and your family a little better before the start of school. There is a survey for both you, the student, and your parent, please fill out both. You can access them from the side link to the right of this post.

Our classroom website will be a place for us to share ideas and collaborate throughout the year. This will be a great tool to keep up with current events and homework in the classroom. You may want to bookmark the sight so that you can return to it throughout the year.

As I said in my summer letter, all you will need for the first day of school is a healthy snack and a smile. There is no need to bring any personal supplies this year. Everything that I expect you to use including pencil box, binder, and notebooks will be provided for you when you get to the classroom.

I know that I met most of you in June but I will be in room 105 during the open house on Thursday August 22nd. Please stop by to say hi!

What to wear: (Label Everything)

• ·     Dress for the weather, dress in layers, the mornings are typically cool and afternoons warm
• ·      Put sunscreen and bug spray on BEFORE leaving your house. (No bug spray is allowed

at camp and it gets buggy in the woods.)

• ·      A hat if you want
• ·      Sneakers (You need these to go in the woods and play sports, wear them every day)
• ·      Sweatshirt (It can get cold in the woods.)

What to bring: (Label everything)

• ·      Your lunch if you are bringing (Snack is provided to all students everyday, Lunch is

provided to all students on Friday)

• ·      Water bottle
• ·      Your bathing suit every day (If you have swimming first block you should come wearing

your swimsuit,  a one piece suit is not required, but is recommended as students will wear them on the zip line.)

• ·      Towel (everyday)
• ·      Sandals/Flip Flops for water activities (Wear sneakers and change at camp)
• ·      Your schedule (I will give it to you Monday morning and you will keep it for the rest

of the week.)

• ·      Plastic bag for your wet bathing suit and towel
• ·      Sunscreen (No sprays please)
• ·      A large bag to put your backpack in if it is raining (All belongings are kept outside

and will get wet if it rain)

•     A raincoat or poncho in case it rains. Keep one in your bag every day just in case.
•      An extra sweatshirt in case one gets wet.

Things to remember:

• ·     You will travel to school the way you normally do and switch to a camp bus at Crisafulli.

After you get off the camp bus find your homeroom teacher to check in and get your badge.

At the end of the day turn your badge back to her. (This is how we do attendance so it is important

to check in at )

• ·     Show respect to all teachers, peers, and parent volunteers at ALL TIMES.
• ·     Use water for drinking only; it is against camp rules to squirt water bottles at each other.
• ·     You will travel to activities with our class. You must stay with our class at all times.
• ·      Raincoat (Everyday!)

Happy Valentine's Day!

A great time was had by all at yesterday's Valentine's celebration! Thank you to Katie Raju for hosting our final celebration of the year. It was a laid back, fun time. There were games, valentines, yummy snacks and even a surprise concert! Thank you for sharing your children with me :) they are amazingly creative and fun! I think it is safe to say they all enjoy each other's company!
