Classroom Updates

The weather has certainly been gorgeous! We are all enjoying the crisp fall air and beautiful skies! Here are a few things that are coming up:

  • In Reading students are getting ready to present Book talks which will begin the week of October 24th. I have added a new link on the homework page that displays a calendar with each child's due date. Please reference this if you are unsure of your child's presentation day.
  • In Social Studies we have finished our first unit on Pre-Columbian Civilizations and geography skills. The end of unit benchmark for this unit will be Friday October 21st. Students have a Study Guide as well as notes packets that they can use for studying. I will be updating the Social Studies Tab with answer keys and more study materials over the weekend.
  • In Science students are continuing their investigations into Ecosystems. This is a long unit and will not be tested on until Mid-November.
  • In writing students have started drafting their first long piece of the year. They are writing a personal narrative of their own choosing. This week we discussed the importance of a strong lead and ways that we can quickly engage our readers.
Our classroom Harvest Party will be in the afternoon on October 31st. If you have not yet sent in your 6 dollar donation consider donating to this fun event. Students will have three parties throughout the year. The money goes to supplies for a simple craft and game during the celebration.

Finally The Race For Education is fast approaching. Students will be filling out mailers during next week. We are looking for all address labels to come to school this Monday October 17th. This will be a fun school-wide event. Our class goal is to collect an average of 5 address labels per student.
