Happy Thanksgiving!

I am so thankful for a wonderful class this year! It was nice to get to see so many parents during conferences and share the amazing things the students are doing. This class is a lot of fun and they bring energy and enthusiasm to each school day!

Thank you for the new donations to our classroom library from the book fair and thank you to parent volunteers for a successful Turkey Trot. (The weather couldn't even dampen our fun)

November has gone by quickly, but we have enjoyed many learning experiences as well as fun activities. We have much to be grateful for :)

Summer Days...

Hi Folks,

Hopefully today will be the worst of the heat and the classrooms will begin cooling down over the next several weeks. On Monday this week the students were introduced to our Spelling program. They received their login information in a parent letter (which I hope they shared with you) and practiced logging in to use the spelling games. Your child also received a "Spelling Menu". This menu should be used to help them choose ways to practice their spelling at home. Please have them cross off the activities that they complete. On Friday they need to return the board, but do not need to send in the actual work. They will take a spelling quiz on Friday to assess their progress. You can access these scores by logging into their account. I will not be sending home a graded test. If you have any questions about the requirements please let me know.

Stay cool and enjoy our final days of summer!

DOT Day!!

Happy DOT day!

We had so much fun celebrating dot day in Room 105!

The Dot by Peter Reynolds tells the story of a young girl learning to believe in herself and changing her mindset to realize her true potential. We participated in several activities based on this theme. Some of the activities the students used to make their mark were a sticker survey around the room, designing a 3D Dot with an iPad, and creating a sticker which they then gave away in a sticker swap. If you would like to see some of our 3D dots take a look at the technology tab.

Thank you!

Thank you for a successful parent night last night!

I enjoyed the chance to meet many of you and match parent to child. I hope that you were able to get a sense of the classroom in our short time together. I forgot to mention last night how much I am loving this class already. It is amazing to me that in such a short few weeks of school we are already functioning as though we have been together an entire year. I am very excited for what this year is going to hold for us.

If you were not able to attend last night keep an eye out for the handouts I gave out last night. I have put them in your child's mailbox to go home this afternoon. Please let me know if you have any questions about my program. I look forward to working with you this year!

Butterflies in our stomach...

Happy first day!

The day started off with nervous excitement. Students arrived and eagerly found their seats and got to work. We spent most of the day getting to know each other and starting to learn the basic routines of the classroom. I hope your child was able to fill you in a little on what we did in the classroom. If you got only a few answers, or mostly one word answers, here are a few conversation starters:

1. What are "Butterflies in your stomach"?
2. Did you play with toilet paper today?
3. What are your two truths and a lie?
4. What is Human Bingo?

I am really looking forward to everyone returning tomorrow for our second day of 5th grade! If you and your child haven't filled out the online survey yet please take a minute to do so. I love reading your insight and also learning a little more from your child on what interests them.

Welcome Back!

I hope that you have all had a wonderful summer and are enjoying your last two weeks of vacation! I have already been busy getting our classroom ready for a new school year and am excited for you all to arrive very soon. Our first few weeks together we will work on building a safe learning environment where participation and acceptance are encouraged and supported.
Along with teaching I am also co-advisor of the student council and I direct the fifth grade play, (no hints on this year's play just yet). I enjoy integrating the arts and technology into the classroom and learning new ideas from my students.
Our classroom website will be a place for us to share ideas and collaborate throughout the year. This will be a great tool to keep up with current events and homework in the classroom. Please take a moment to fill in a quick PARENT survey as well as a STUDENT survey to help me prepare for the school year.
Our main focus this year will be on building a community within room 105. Through Team 105 meetings, cooperative activities and discussions, we will become a team of students with whom you can feel safe to share your ideas, concerns and talents.
All you will need for the first day of school is a healthy snack and a smile. There is no need to bring any personal supplies this year. Everything that I expect you to use including pencil box, binder, and notebooks will be provided for you when you get to the classroom.
I will be in room 105 from 9:00 - 10:00 during the open house on Thursday August 24th. Please stop by to say hi!
Sincerely,
Ms. Moores

Move-Up Day!

Happy Move-Up Day!

It was an exciting and energetic "first" day on Team 105. While my current class enjoyed an extra outdoor recess, my new Team 105 enjoyed our first introductions. I felt a great energy in the air as students learned whom they would be spending their next school year with. As always there are jitters learning who your teacher and new classmates are going to be. I hope that this new tradition helped to ease some anxiety about next year. Take time over the summer to get to know new classmates better and spend time with friends you may not be with next year. Remember that you will see all your friends at lunch and recess. In addition next year you will have a whole new class for math.
If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact me over the summer at jmoores@westfordk12.us

Sincerely,
Ms. Moores

Welcome back

Hi All

This week I am transitioning back to the classroom after my maternity leave. We have been very lucky in room 105 to be able to have Mrs. Beck remain in the classroom yesterday and today. I have spent my time catching up on the content taught while I was gone and reconnecting with the students. There has certainly been a lot of learning going on in the classroom and the students clearly thrived with Mrs. Beck.

Tomorrow I will step back into the role of lead classroom teacher. Mrs. Beck and I have gotten a chance to talk about the student progress as well as updating me on any changes that have occurred while I was gone. I am excited to get back into the swing of things and appreciate how organized the classroom has remained while I was away.

The Spring is a very busy time of year and I know your children will enjoy all of the end of year activities coming up. Be sure to read Ms. Kennelly's emails carefully as she will try to keep you updated on all of the State testing and activities that are coming up.

Notices for Conferences were sent home this week. The portal for conference sign ups opens this Monday March 13th at 3:30pm.

A reminder that tomorrow is the Colonial America Benchmark. I will be continuing to catch up on the maintenance of the website. If you have any questions please reach out to me at jmoores@westfordk12.us
