105 Updates

Team 105 Updates

I can't believe that it is the middle of October already! The year is already going by quickly and I am really enjoying spending time with your children. They are a lively and fun group. I look forward to the next few weeks with exciting projects, parties, and field trips :) Read below for a little information about the learning happening in the classroom and also to see some special requests I am looking for.

ELA: In reading we have been learning about Plot and Character development. The students have learned about how characters face conflicts throughout the plot of a book. The way that the character deals with these conflicts helps the reader to understand the character and their traits. We are now learning about figurative language. We will be learning about the types of figurative language and discussing how they help the reader to visualize a text. We will be using this information as we begin to analyze poetry over the next two weeks.
In writing we are working on our first personal narratives.

Science: I hope you enjoyed our recent comic life portrayals of the Seven steps. We are currently learning about ecosystems and how they remain in balance. Shortly we will begin constructing
eco-columns within the classroom so that we can closely study the interactions between living and non-living things.

Special Requests:

  • 2 liter clear bottles. Preferably with smooth flat sides. We will need three bottles for each eco-column we build so send as many as you have.
  • Pumpkins! We will be doing a special lesson on Friday October 31st as part of a celebration for our poetry unit we started today. I need pumpkins of all sizes. Please feel free to send them in ahead of time with your student as they enjoy having them in the room.
